Knowledge: The overcome of a process during time;knowledge is a justified, true, belief

'Impersonal propositional' is knowledge by description

'Personal' knowledge is knowledge by
  • introspection/intraspection
  • Practice
  • Conviction

Subconscious knowledge is knowledge by instinct

Justification

This refers to the relating of the subject to something else which has not been discussed

A good justification must be true, have clear language and respect the principals of logic

The three methods to justify if something is true are as follows:
  • Correspondence Theory
  • Coherence Theory
  • Pragmatic Theory

Correspondence: Comparing of logic, facts of senses and experience
E.g If someone has been missing numerous shots during a football game, correspondence theory then suggests that this trend shall carry on

Pragmatic: This refers to the personal belief an individual has upon a topic
E.g Apple's GUI looks better than windows

Coherence: An evaluation of truth broken down into 'PIE'

P- Public- Does the society believe it?

I- Independent- Do you believe it?

E- External- Will it continue to be true as time progresses?

If all these questions are answered with a 'yes' then you have what is called a 'Universal truth' (A permanent fact that is true to the public regardless of your location E.g It is called 'Night' when the sun goes down).

Ways of knowing (WOK)
  • Emotions
  • Reasoning
  • Perception of senses
  • Language
  • Experience
  • Authority
  • Logic

Paradigm: A model or conceptual system for understanding experience, they are formed by concepts in order to assist us in organizing experience.
E.g- History or any science etc.

Areas Of Knowing (AOK)

  • Natural Science
  • History
  • Art
  • Mathematics
  • Ethics

Issues regarding knowledge

Knowledge Claim: Someone's P.O.V which brings up discussion.

A few things to detect a knowledge claim are as follows:

  • Can any counter claims be made?
  • What WOK are involved?
  • What AOK can this claim but classified into?
  • Does it contain problematic concepts?
